Paul Seixas reveals why he is delaying major decision on cycling future
Paul Seixas has explained why he is delaying a decision on his future beyond 2027, despite growing interest from rival teams. The Frenchman also admitted that the frenzy surrounding his next contract will “become increasingly burdensome” as he weighs up whether to extend his stay at Decathlon CMA CGM or make a blockbuster move elsewhere.

Speaking on RMC’s Super Moscato Show on Monday, Paul Seixas confirmed that he isn’t rushing a decision on his future, despite the ever-growing speculation surrounding his rapid rise in the sport, most recently capped by his historic victory at Il Lombardia earlier this month.
"For now, I haven't made a decision," Seixas said. "Throughout my young career so far, I’ve spent my time chasing contracts.”
“Every time I put in a good performance, people would tell me, 'You need to sign a new deal.' But when I signed my current contract two years ago, I promised myself I wouldn't rush into the next one. Because, honestly, it’s just a drag,” he added.
Seixas is currently under contract with Decathlon through the end of 2027, but has naturally garnered interest across the peloton.
UAE Team Emirates-XRG, Visma | Lease a Bike and Netcompany-Ineos are among the teams linked to the Frenchman, though it has also been reported that Decathlon are prepared to offer an XXL contract to secure his long-term future.
Despite the intense interest, Seixas suggested that he will not let the growing pressure influence how and when he makes his decision.
"I’m on holiday right now, so I’m not really thinking about it," Seixas said. "Even though I’ll have to make a choice soon, I haven't decided yet. I’m not sure when I will. I think there will come a moment when I just get a 'feeling,' and I’ll know it’s the right decision."
Even so, the 20-year-old acknowledged that he can’t draw out the decision for too long because it could become increasingly impactful next season.
"It’s going to become increasingly burdensome," Seixas said. "I can’t just decide at the very last minute, either. I might start the season without making an announcement. I’m not sure yet.”
“But there will come a point where I’ll want to put this behind me. I’m just waiting for the right moment."
Decathlon have signalled their ambitions by being active in the transfer market, replacing the outgoing Felix Gall with Laurens De Plus, Ben O’Connor and Pavel Sivakov in the climbing department, business that has left Seixas satisfied.
"I think the fact that I haven't made a decision yet is actually a good thing," Seixas said. "When you look at how the Decathlon CMA CGM team has evolved, it’s a completely different team compared to a year ago. We now have a much clearer picture of what it is becoming."
