Jorgenson shares uplifting update after surgery as Amstel crash ends Ardennes Classics hopes
Matteo Jorgenson (Visma | Lease a Bike) has shared a positive update after undergoing surgery for a broken collarbone following his crash in the final of the Amstel Gold Race.

The 26-year-old went down with 41 kilometres remaining while attempting to avoid Kévin Vauquelin, who had crashed just ahead of him as the pair were moving clear in a select group. Jorgenson remained on the ground for some time but was conscious while receiving medical attention.
He was taken to hospital, where scans confirmed a broken collarbone.
“Matteo broke his collarbone in his crash during the Amstel Gold Race,” the team said earlier. “As a result, he will not start in the Flèche Wallonne or Liège Bastogne Liège.”
24 hours later, Jorgenson shared an update from the hospital, confirming that surgery had been successful and striking an optimistic tone.
“Mission bionic arm successful,” he wrote, thanking fans for their support. “I feel the love. Things happen and that’s what makes life beautiful. Onwards.”
The message suggests the American is already focused on recovery, despite the disappointment of missing the Ardennes Classics, which had been a key target after shifting his spring campaign away from the Flemish races.
Sports director Frans Maassen had earlier expressed frustration at the timing of the crash. “We had high expectations. Matteo was in great form, so it’s disappointing his race ended like this,” he told Sporza.
Jorgenson is still expected to return later this season, with the Tour de France remaining a major objective alongside Jonas Vingegaard, as the team prepares to challenge Tadej Pogačar once again.
